Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.
Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.
Darwin is an easy city to get around. The bus service was easy to navigate and free for seniors.
The dining scene was interesting and we had some great meals.
Mindil markets on a Thursday was heaving and the food overrated, however the sunset was lovely.

We loved our trip to Darwin unfortunately we only stayed for four days so were not able to see as much as we wanted to but we still had a good time. We used the free public buses that senior card holders can use and this got us to the Casino, Mindil beach market and Fannie Bay. We went on a sunset cruise on the harbour and took advantage of the free shuttle bus that goes around the waterfront to get us to and from the boat.

Great town with some good bars and restaurants, the waterfront area is an upper class feel as apposed to down town. Heading out to Berry springs and Litchfield national park is a must do if you like swimming in pristine waterholes and of course going to the Mindil Beach night markets and watching the sunset.

Darwin winter we found very humid, the heat was expected.
Darwin winter we found very humid, the heat was expected. City is vibrant with good food outlets, but not a lot catering to Ceoliacs.
Street parking, be aware it is all timed meters.
Mindil sunset markets are a must go to. Lots of street foods at reasonable prices.
Wave pool on waterfront was fun, and reasonably priced.

Darwin has a vibe, full of lovely cafes and nightspots and a very interesting history from World War 2 and Cyclone Tracy. The Waterfront area is beautiful, lovely well maintained parks and fabulous markets. Evenings, everyone comes out to see the spectacular sunsets over the water. Evenings are warm - people go out walking, outdoor exercise classes and pop up eateries galore. Gateway also to Litchfield, Katherine and Kakadu - what's not to love!
The one bedroom apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean. All amenities are provided in the room, including a washer and dryer. Great kitchen with a full size fridge. Air conditioning keeps you cool in the heat of the day. The hotel is across the road from a small shopping centre and it's not far to Fannie Bay to enjoy the sunsets and also head to the airport. There's a small pool area but you can cool down in the refreshing water. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We would recommend this hotel for your stay in Darwin.
We liked the location , being an apartment we enjoyed doing our own breakfasts , plenty of towels ect , beds comfortable , air conditioning excellent , especially the fans , great to be able to do our washing on site.Close to supermarkets , bus stops , mall . We walked with ease around city , to waterfront , historic sites .
Owners were very approachable before arriving in Darwin and whilst staying at apartment .
We left very early in the morning so did not have the breakfast, however we had room service dinner the previous night and it was delicious. It was so wonderful to be able to stay at a hotel that actually still has room service 24hrs and a restaurant. I normally book accommodation in Darwin city but the places no longer have room service and many have closed their restaurants. I won't be staying in the city again!
A real pleasant surprise. One of the best hotels we stayed at on our visit to Australia. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean, beds super comfy and quite big. The breakfast was basic but great and started at 5.30am so you could get food before any early morning coach trips. Fab coffee too. This would be my first choice to stay again if I was back in Darwin.
Great location. Easy walking to city centre and many restaurants/pubs. Great views over water and the city from all windows. Quiet, well-appointed, comfortable apartment. Extremely helpful host (Ali) who was very patient and accommodating with anything we contacted him for during our stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Darwin.
The one bedroom fully self contained apartment with washer, dryer, full size fridge was very spacious and had a great view of marina and surrounding bay. The apartment was very clean and ideal for our 4 night stay. 5 minute walk to Restaurants and only 10 minute drive into Darwin city or Waterfront.
I love this hotel. I stay here every time I visit family in Darwin. the rooms are always clean and they’re so cosy. The aircons run well which is great in Darwin. The parking is free, and it’s central to everything. you can walk into the pub next door for an awesome meal.
The location, view and the space was great. Wonderful for walking around and exploring Darwin. Watching the sunset over the city was lovely every evening. The access to a variety of restaurants for dining-in or delivery, was very convenient.
Loved that the apartment had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Located within easy walkable access to both the waterfront and Darwin City.
We enjoyed overlooking the waterfront. Beds and lounge very comfortable.
Would stay again
Best self contained hotel I’ve stayed in for a long time. Beautiful Pool and rooftop bar and snacks with sensational 360 degree views over Darwin and the ocean.
Wonderful staff 😊
Close to where we needed to be and other amenities. Was cheaper and more comfortable than other hotels I have been to in Darwin. Will come back if I'm ever in Darwin again
The hotel is well positioned close to town and the room was spacious. The facilities were adequate for our short stay. There was plenty of parking, the breakfast was good.
The hotel is good value for money in the wet season. Beds and room are comfortable for short stays. It is in a good location close to eateries, mall and waterfront.
Nice hotel on the waterfront in the centre of Darwin. Good access to centre city and bars and restaurants. Pleasant Walks to Stokes Wharf and shopping areas.
