Such an usual experience as we booked without realising that the concept is a bed and breakfast, guest house in a castle located in a winery but with no one to welcome you after 7pm and no restaurant.
However, upon confirmation of the booking, the "hotel" sends us all the instructions to check-in online, how to access the interior of the castle and our room as well as how to enjoy a whole bunch of gourmet snacks and top wines in the modern "honesty kitchen" of the castle where you just fill up the list of the items you select to add them to your bill for check-out.
We ended up having a romantic sunset dinner on our own in the gardens of the castle thinking that we had it exclusive to ourselves until we found out that various other guests had all gone out for dinner in the Toro village nearby!
The bedroom was superb, the breakfast served by friendly staff and we enjoyed a very original experience in a luxurious property at a very affordable price.

Old centre has some picturesque buildings, and the novelty of huge stork nests on several of the church spires and towers, with storks and young in residence in May. Bars not generally open between 15:00 and 21:00. Good for touring region but apart from architectural interest, missable.

Toro is an incredible small town with a great history about Spain and the region of Castille and Leon. Besides of historical buildings and museums, It's absolutely recommended visit specifically for a gourmet stay, where you can find a lot of easy to visit vineyards and cheese factories.

It is a fascinating historical town, the old town rather crumbling at the moment. Centuries of history at every turn. Many bars with good ranges of tapas, but hard to find a functioning restaurant at the moment. The cafe/restaurant next to the Hotel Juan II does excellent lunches.

good for wine tasting.
good for wine tasting. A rural non- touristiy working town - mainly spanish residents with not much english spoken (youngsters do speak english) Nice locqal bars, restaurants etc. Walk around easily. Tourists around from other countries including US - several cyclists and walkers.
On arrival we met with the owner who made us very welcome. He let us park our car while we unloaded our luggage.
He actually gave us a bottle of wine from his family's vineyard to take away. Toro is famous for its wine.!!
The staff were friendly and helpful .
The hotel was right in the centre of playa Mayor which is a beautiful spot.
The room was spotless and everything about it was comfortable and quiet.
We went out for food later on the square and it was an uncredible atmosphere everywhere. Toro is a little gem.
You are NOT a hotel in the current world. No staff. No restaurant. You are miss-selling your amenities. An honest kitchen does not reflect the clientele you attract on your website. Our room smelled of drains, our bathroom floor was dirty and full of black hairs. We found black hairs in the bed. Just utterly appalling. And we had the most unwelcoming host we have ever encountered. After an eight-hour drive we found we didn’t have a restaurant. And no staff! A complete joke.
We keep coming back to this hotel every time we visit Toro. We have stayed on a number of occasions in this amazing building. If you really want to experience the real history and feel of Spain this is the place for you.
The people at the hotel look after you very well and the orange juice at breakfast is the best which accompanies the lovely breakfast. Breakfast is best when served outside on a nice day in the historic courtyard.
The location is excellent, set in a very quiet beautiful square ,in the lovely town of Toro, with superb elevated views over the surrounding countryside. Parking outside, we arrived on a motorcycle and they allowed us to park in the cobbled courtyard right outside the reception.
Very happy with the restaurant connected to the hotel. Although I arrived late in the afternoon on Saturday, I was able to have the weekend menu as the last diner before they closed the kitchen. Room was quiet and comfortable
location, view, friendliness and helpfulness of reception and cleaning staff. I should say we have stayed at the hotel 9 times over the last 16 years but it recently changed ownership. The toaster was easy to use

The location on the top of the hill overlooking the River Duero valley is knockout. The grounds are beautifully maintained and laid out. The hotel once inside is everything we had hoped it would be.
Apartment is beautiful. In a fantastic location. Super clean. Owners were great and responsive to questions immediately. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if we visit Toro again
A superbly situated apartment by Plaza Mayor, very tranquil and clean and spacious. Nerea is very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our days in Toro.
