Earlier that day, we could enjoy the amazing cultural songs of the oiwake in nearby Esashi and then relax at the hot springs at the accommodation. Hosts are more than Hosts - helped with every detail needing clarification. Found me a fly fishing guide and shared wonderful food and drinks with me. Location is remote (not far from the bullet train tracks that hiss by - not bothersome) but close to Hakodate, hiking and nice local onsen. Hakodate is definitely a unique Japanese city, very laid-Back, interesting history and on the verge of becoming a major tourist attraction - so visit soon.

Just across the road from JR Shin Hakodate, super convenient to go to Hakodate and zip off to other parts of Hokkaido on JR Pass. Comfortable beds, clean room and bathroom too. Breakfast was good and satisfying. We faced the mountain and could see the sun rise. Staff didn’t speak much English but that’s sorted out with translator device and their very pleasant attitude to help.

Hotel La'gent Plaza Hakodate Hokuto ligger i Hokuto, under 19 km fra Hakodate Goryokaku og 43 km fra Iou-bjerget. The hotel room is very big and convenient to rest as well. Laundry machine are plenty, there's also public bath and the breakfast is delicious. The staff are really kind for letting me keep my luggage there for awhile after checking out since I still want to travel the city. The hotel is located conveniently just beside the shin-hakodate-hokuto station exit. There's the "hokkuru" shop at the 1st floor where you can find foods and also shop for souvenirs as well (The lobby is in 2nd floor). While there isn't a lot to do near the hotel, the location is still convenient if you want to travel in Hakodate and Hokuto area, as it is located in the middle. Hakodate is about 20 minutes away by train, and around the same is for Hokuto. Sapporo (The biggest city in Hokkaido) is still about 4 hours by train from here since the Shinkansen isn't available yet, but there are still lots of great stuff to visit and enjoy in both of these cities, even if you don't get to Sapporo. Really enjoyed my time here and hopefully I could go and visit again in the future!
